Faculty talk China at first-ever reception - January 27, 2011

The Wisconsin China Initiative (WCI) held its first-ever reception for faculty and staff on Thursday, January 27.

A gathering of about 50 UW-Madison staff and faculty from across disciplines, joined by several visiting fellows from Chinese universities, took part in the evening recption at the University Club.

The event included presentations about the goals and plans of the Initiative by Division of International Studies Dean Gilles Bousquet, WCI Director John Ohnesorge, and WCI Coordinator Laurie Dennis. Dean Bousquet announced to the audience a new grant to support scholarly collaborations that further the goals of the Wisconsin China Initiative. A request for proposals for grants should be ready by the end of February and will be loaded to this website.

The reception also included time for faculty and staff to talk informally about their involvement in China research and programs. The Initiative hopes to make this an annual event at the time of the Chinese Lunar New Year.
